Posted on: January 13, 2012

Committee seeks interested individuals as members

In order to address pediatric obesity, ICAAP is forming a multidisciplinary Committee on Obesity. The Committee will consider factors and policies that influence health disparities, access to care, health outcomes, and clinical practice.

The Committee’s work over the next two years will focus on improving quality in obesity care, especially in the following areas:

  • - Improving Illinois Medicaid and private payer policies to better support obesity care
  • - Increasing the availability of and access to comprehensive multi-disciplinary treatment programs and targeted physical activity programs
  • - Adding new continuing medical education modules to ICAAP’s Preventing and Managing Obesity in Primary Care
  • - Expanding practice linkages to community resources and knowledge of advocacy opportunities across the state

The Committee will also oversee ICAAP’s implementation of a pediatric obesity health care quality measure for the state of Illinois and the development of a pediatric obesity Maintenance of Certification project in conjunction with the Illinois CHIPRA (Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act) Quality Improvement Demonstration Project.

The inaugural meeting of the committee is scheduled for Tuesday, January 31, 2012 from 8:30 – 10am at the ICAAP office (1400 @. Hubbard St, Suite 100, Chicago, IL).  If you are interested in joining the committee, please RSVP to Billy Kalb, Obesity Prevention Initiatives Coordinator, at bkalb@illinoisaap.com or 312/733-1026 ext. 232. If you have any questions about the Committee on Obesity, please contact Mary Elsner, Director, Obesity Prevention Initiatives at melsner@illinoisaap.com or 312/733-1026, ext 220.
