The Autism Program (TAP) Service Center in Rockford, a program of Easter Seals Metropolitan Chicago, has announced four exciting summer opportunities taking place around the Rockford region:
• June 14, 2013 from 5-9pm: Family Support Services is offering a Sibling Night with Parents at Volcano Falls Adventure Park. The event is geared towards siblings over the age of 5 that have a brother or sister with a disability. The event is free, but registration by June 7th is required. For more information, click here.
• June 15, 2013 at 10am: Family Support Services is presenting a sensory-friendly movie showing of Epic at the AMC Showplace 16 in Rockford. Registration is required, and space is limited. More information can be found here.
• June 29, 2013 from 11:30am-3pm: NASR Play Day in the Park at the Krape Park Gunkel Shelter in Freeport will include a picnic lunch, kickball, paddleboats, giant bubbles, lawn games, miniature golf, and carousel rides. The registration deadline is June 26, and there is a $15 fee. For more information, click here.
• TAP and Have Dreams is hosting an intensive five-day training in a classroom setting for professionals who work with children with autism spectrum disorders. Covered topics include characteristics and classroom assessments of students with autism, principles and implementation of structured teaching, working with families of children with autism, communication and socialization strategies, and proactive behavior strategies promoting independent, vocational, and social skills.
