ICAAP committees undertake projects in education, publication, advocacy, and other areas and include not only pediatricians but other health and child welfare professionals. If you are interested in assisting the ICAAP by participating on a committee – or if you would like to help start a new ICAAP committee – please contact the appropriate committee chairperson or the ICAAP office.

Adolescent Health

Chairperson: Kim Glow, MD

The ICAAP Committee on Adolescent Health (COAH) serves as a forum for pediatricians and other health care providers who are interested in promoting adolescent health to discuss and develop policies, programs, and resources to improve health care for adolescents.  New members are welcome.

Committee on Bioethics

The ICAAP Committee on Bioethics (COB) serves as a forum for pediatricians and other health care providers who are interested in bioethical issues related to the medical care of children.

Committee on Breastfeeding

Child Abuse and Neglect

Chairperson: Michele A. Lorand, MD, FAAP

The ICAAP Committee on Child Abuse and Neglect (COCAN) serves as a forum to educate and inform pediatricians and other health care providers who are concerned with issues relating to physical, sexual, and emotional abuse and neglect of children and adolescents. COCAN develops and advocates for appropriate policy recommendations, programs, and resources to enhance the physical and mental health and well-being of children experiencing abuse and/or neglect and their families.

Child Care

The ICAAP Committee on Child Care (COCC) serves to promote optimal development, health, and safety of all children through access to quality early education and child care, and to provide a forum for pediatricians, other health care providers, and those working in child care to collaborate around and discuss issues relating to early education and child care.

Child Development

The ICAAP Committee on Child Development (COCD) serves to advocate for the improvement, both in quantity and quality, of developmental screening, referral, evaluation, care coordination, and services in Illinois; to develop a forum for pediatricians and other health care providers for education and discussion of issues relating to child development; to increase the visibility of such issues within Illinois; and to collaborate with organizations in advocacy for children and their families. Children with Disabilities

Fetus and Newborn

Chairperson: Dennis Crouse, MD, PhD, FAAP

The ICAAP Committee on Fetus and Newborn (COFN) serves as a forum for pediatricians, neonatologists, OB/Gyn providers, nurse practitioners and other specialists interested in advocating on behalf of premature infants in Illinois. The committee develops educational opportunities for the providers who care for this high risk population. The committee is dedicated to examining the issues faced by premature infants and their caretakers while keeping ICAAP members informed of any policy or legislation related to prematurity.

Government Affairs

The ICAAP Committee on Government Affairs (COGA) serves as a forum for ICAAP’s member pediatricians to learn about and become active on current state legislation.  Each year, ICAAP staff, lobbyists and the ICAAP Executive Committee identify policy priorities for ICAAP and review as many as 2,000 bills submitted to the Illinois General Assembly, identifying those most relevant to pediatrics and child health and determining if ICAAP should take a position.  The COGA meets to review those bills and positions and discuss how pediatricians can work with legislators to educate them on ICAAP priorities.

Immunizations

The ICAAP Committee on Immunizations (COI) serves as the advisory board for ICAAP’s broad scope of immunization initiatives. The COI provides oversight of childhood and adolescent immunization education for healthcare providers; education and training on the Illinois immunization registry, I-CARE; provider/public awareness of immunization information; publications; advocacy; vaccine financing/reimbursement; and the development of a statewide network of immunization champions.

Injury and Violence Prevention

ICAAP Committee on Injury and Violence Prevention (COIVP) serves as a forum for physicians to discuss issues and policies related to prevention of injuries and treatment of exposure to violence.

School Health

Chairperson: Cindy Mears, DO

The ICAAP Committee on School Health (COSH) serves as a forum for pediatricians, school nurses, and others to discuss issues related to the health of children while in school. It facilitates collaboration between health care providers, state administrators, and school personnel, keeps members informed of relevant legislation, and addresses important school health issues.

Sports Medicine and Fitness
