ICAAP committees undertake projects in education, publication, advocacy, and other areas and include not only pediatricians but other health and child welfare professionals. If you are interested in assisting the ICAAP by participating on a committee – or if you would like to help start a new ICAAP committee – please contact the appropriate committee chairperson or the ICAAP office.

Adolescent Health

Child Abuse and Neglect

Children with Disabilities

Fetus and Newborn

The ICAAP Committee on Fetus and Newborn (COFN) serves as a forum for pediatricians, neonatologists, OB/Gyn providers, nurse practitioners and other specialists interested in advocating on behalf of premature infants in Illinois. The committee develops educational opportunities for the providers who care for this high risk population. The committee is dedicated to examining the issues faced by premature infants and their caretakers while keeping ICAAP members informed of any policy or legislation related to prematurity.[...more]

Government Affairs

The ICAAP Committee on Government Affairs (COGA) serves as a forum for ICAAP’s member pediatricians to learn about and become active on current state legislation.  Each year, ICAAP staff, lobbyists and the ICAAP Executive Committee identify policy priorities for ICAAP and review as many as 2,000 bills submitted to the Illinois General Assembly, identifying those most relevant to pediatrics and child health and determining if ICAAP should take a position.  The COGA meets to review those bills and positions and discuss how pediatricians can work with legislators to educate them on ICAAP priorities. Immunizations

The ICAAP Committee on Immunizations (COI) serves as the advisory board for ICAAP’s broad scope of immunization initiatives. The COI provides oversight of childhood and adolescent immunization education for healthcare providers; education and training on the Illinois immunization registry, I-CARE; provider/public awareness of immunization information; publications; advocacy; vaccine financing/reimbursement; and the development of a statewide network of immunization champions. It facilitates collaboration between health care providers, state administrators, and school personnel, keeps members informed of relevant legislation, and addresses important school health issues.
