COFN Forms | COFN Activities and Resources

The ICAAP Committee on Fetus and Newborn (COFN) serves as a forum for pediatricians, neonatologists, OB/Gyn providers, nurse practitioners and other specialists interested in advocating on behalf of premature infants in Illinois.  The committee is dedicated to examining the issues faced by premature infants and their caretakers, while keeping ICAAP members informed of any policy or legislation related to prematurity. The committee also develops educational opportunities for the providers who care for this high-risk population.

Past activities include an annual educational seminar addressing the current issues in neonatology, policy and advocacy for premature infants and a survey, which polled the 23 Illinois facilities with Level III neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) about issues they face when caring for their patients.

Current projects include a NICU Graduate Pilot Project, which will provide education to pediatric providers and family practitioners with a large population of NICU graduate patients.  The COFN also works with the March of Dimes on the “Big 5″, which seeks to implement a Quality Improvement (QI) project in the Big 5 states (NY, CA, TX, IL and FL) and specifically within the ten perinatal centers in Illinois.
