Illinois Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics

The Illinois Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (ICAAP) is an organization of approximately 2,300 pediatricians in Illinois. Primary activities include advocacy on behalf of children, families, and health professionals in Illinois; the provision of continuing medical education and other resources for pediatricians, pediatric specialists, and other child health care providers; and collaboration with other state organizations and agencies on programs and projects that improve the health and well-being of children.

Project Manager, Obesity Prevention Initiatives (Part-time)

PROJECT/MANAGER:  The Illinois Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics (ICAAP) is seeking a Manager to oversee all aspects of the planning and implementation of a grant-funded obesity-prevention initiative to promote and institute improvements in breastfeeding practices and linkages throughout suburban Cook County. The Manager will work with hospitals, medical practices, and a wide range of community partners to build and implement environmental, policy, and systems change. The project is funded through the Cook County Department of Public Health’s Communities Putting Prevention to Work and under the auspices of the US Centers for Disease Control. The position is responsible for managing all aspects of the project, including developing hospital and practice assessment tools and educational materials, training ICAAP volunteers, working with CCDPH partners and ICAAP volunteers to educate and change policies and practices within hospitals and physician offices, organizing and coordinating meetings and trainings, monitoring grant deliverables and budgets, and writing grants, agendas, minutes, web content, and articles for ICAAP publications. Ability to travel to hospital sites throughout suburban Cook County is a prerequisite for the position.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:  Master’s degree in public health and/or nursing or equivalent and at least five years of work experience. Work within a hospital and expertise in evidenced-based breastfeeding/nutrition promotion and support is required. The candidate should have excellent people, writing, computer, organizational, and planning skills. Previous project management and grant writing experience is desirable.
