Help Support ICAAP

Like one of your patients, the Illinois Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (ICAAP) has moved quickly through childhood into adolescence, and we need your help to continue to grow.

In the last few years, practice-based educational programs have been presented at nearly 300 medical practices and hospitals. Advocacy focused on protecting Medicaid reimbursement rates, raising awareness of the malpractice crisis, and monitoring legislation that affects children, families, and health professionals. We have forged important partnerships and gained the respect of key players in state politics.

We would not have accomplished this without the support of members like you. You have shown your dedication to the AAP and its Chapters through long-term involvement. But won’t you consider providing a tax-deductible donation to the Chapter to support our many programs and services for you and your colleagues in Illinois?

Membership dues have always provided the foundation for our activity. But as a not-for-profit organization, ICAAP depends on unrestricted contributions to develop its infrastructure and fund important programs . A contribution made today will empower the Chapter to continue to strive for all children to live happy, safe and healthy lives.

Just look at what we’ve done in the last few years

  • ICAAP’s Kids Are Worth It Coalition worked tirelessly to increase awareness of the relationship between access and reimbursement rates during the budget crisis. As a result, proposed Medicaid reimbursement cuts in 2002 were halved, and in 2003 rates were not cut at all. This year, legislators are supporting ICAAP’s proposal to add $13 million to Medicaid’s budget to increase rates for well-child visits.
  • The Reaching Our Goals immunization education program has mobilized over 20 ICAAP members as speakers and trained over 800 healthcare professionals statewide on vaccine administration.
  • The Get In the Zone asthma education program helped seven pilot practices decrease emergency department visits by nearly 100% and increase adherence to asthma action plans by 33%.
  • ICAAP couldn’t meet the demand for our developmental screening program, which was presented to over 40 pediatric practices and generated a ‘waiting list’ of nearly 20 more! The project’s success leveraged additional resources for ICAAP to address autism, maternal depression, and infant mental health.
  • Helping physicians-in-training prepare for practice and community involvement is a key goal for the Chapter. In addition to presenting noon conferences at training programs, ICAAP developed a model advocacy curriculum and presented it to nearly 100 pediatric residents so far.
  • We’ve enhanced our ability to meet any request our members have! Eight staff members are now available to serve you and to make sure our interests are represented at coalition meetings and in policy discussions every day.
  • The newsletter has won praise for the quality of its educational articles, and the Web site and new monthly updates keep your abreast of current activities in Illinois
  • The Chapter has been recognized for its accomplishments by several prestigious awards – including the AAP 2003 Outstanding Very Large Chapter Award, an AAP Special Achievement Award, and the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) 2003 Award of Excellence.

And we can do more! Your Executive Committee and many volunteers have laid out plans to advocate for increased reimbursement, initiate discussions about quality care with insurers, fight the crisis in obesity, and help providers treat the mental health needs of Illinois teens. But dues income only goes so far, and grants come and go.

Your gift will support important Chapter activities – particularly those, like our policy activity, that cannot be supported by our many contracts with private and public agencies. Contributions also help ICAAP continue to serve groups like residents and medical students who can’t yet afford their memberships.

Please join ICAAP as we continue to grow and create additional resources that benefit you and the children of Illinois. Complete the donation formĀ and return it to the Chapter office. Thank you for your support.
