About ICAAP Membership – Why join ICAAP?

ICAAP is focused on supporting Illinois Pediatricians and all providers who care for children through:

  • Continuing Education and Maintenance of Certification

To assist in providing the most update information on caring for children, ICAAP has developed practice-based educational programs addressing immunizations, oral health, early childhood development, establishment of medical homes and obesity.  These programs are available free of charge to qualifying practices and many provide CME credit.  Over 15 staff members support these programs and provide ongoing technical assistance.  In addition, the ICAAP Annual Education Conference offers education and networking opportunities.  In 2012, ICAAP launched its first Quality Improvement programs that qualify for part four of the American Board of Pediatrics Part IV Maintenance of Certification (MOC).  As of 2013, ICAAP had five programs approved and four additional programs in development.   ICAAP needs your support to continue to offer these educational opportunities.

  • Advocating for Children’s Health and their Medical Providers

ICAAP advocates for policies and legislation that affect children and pediatric providers in Illinois.  ICAAP’s advocacy efforts focus on issues pertaining to children such as  protecting Medicaid reimbursement rates, passing legislation mandating coverage of habilitative services for children, and monitoring hundreds of pieces of legislation that affects children, families, and health professionals. In addition, there are significant changes on the horizon as Illinois makes plans to implement health care reform, promote electronic medical records, implement Medicaid child health quality measures, and more. ICAAP needs your support to be at the table with state agencies and in Springfield, representing as many health care providers who serve children as possible.

  • Publications and Professional Networking Opportunities

ICAAP produces a number of online newsletters and printed publications to help providers stay informed on children’s health issues and resources.  A subscription to the Illinois Pediatrician, included with each paid membership, publishes articles related to children’s health in Illinois.  Our monthly update, ICAAPlets, provides updates on resources for pediatricians including upcoming conferences and updated information on immunizations.  Most ICAAP projects also produce newsletters to provide updates on issues specific to that program. ICAAP also provides networking opportunities and topic specific updates thought our over dozen interest groups and committees. Without your continued support, these important resources could not exist.

  • Reach Out and Read

Reach Out and Read of Illinois is a partnership with ICAAP and the Reach Out and Read National Center. ROR of Illinois strives to increase literacy and a love for books among children by ensuring that all Illinois children have access to books at an early age. Our goals are achieved by recruiting new ROR sites, providing technical assistance, coordinating provider training on literacy and how to promote reading, facilitating communication among existing sites, and assisting with fundraising to support book distribution.  ROR and ICAAP are proud to support 95 centers  in Illinois who distributed 170,00 books in 2009.
