The ROG program presents clinical information on the newest immunization recommendations for childhood immunizations and adolescent immunizations, provides information and resources for healthcare providers on how to better manage immunizations in today’s health care environment, and how clinical practices can help increase immunization rates and improve the health of children in Illinois communities. The ROG program will provide pediatricians, family physicians, nurses and other pediatric health care professionals the ability to develop and/or increase their knowledge, skills, and professional performance on immunization to various standards recommended by CDC and AAP policy. To date in 2010, 813 cases of pertussis have been reported in Illinois compared with 648 cases as of this date in 2009. Of the 813 cases, 152 (19%) occurred among infants less than 12 months of age, and 432 (53%) in children between the ages of 1 and 18 years. Approximately half of the cases reported occurred in the last 90 days.
At an October 2010 meeting Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) endorsed Tdap vaccination for the following groups for whom the vaccine is not FDA approved:
Persons ≥65 years of age
Children 7–10 years of age who have not been fully immunized against pertussis, for whom no contraindication to pertussis vaccine exists, or whose vaccination status against pertussis is unknown” [...more]
