ICAAP’s First Steps: Improving Child Health and Housing project is currently recruiting pediatricians to serve as spokespersons in our advocacy campaign to prevent homelessness and housing instability in early childhood.
When the COVID-19 eviction moratoriums ends, more children and families will be facing eviction. You can take action by becoming part of ICAAP’s speakers bureau and communicating the risks of housing insecurity on child health. Volunteers will be trained in conjunction with the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless and receive support in preparation for any engagement, including ICAAP’s factsheets and housing education for pediatricians on the topic of child homelessness (https://illinoisaap.org/first-steps/ ). Examples of possible engagements include an interview with the media, speaking at a press conference, talking with a legislator, or participating in social media campaigns. ICAAP anticipates no more than one or two engagements for volunteers in 2021. Potential opportunities for engagement can be limited and tailored to your schedule.
If you are interested in getting involved but cannot make the meeting, please contact Magale Avitia, at icaapconsultant2@illinoisaap.com , or Mary Elsner, at melsner@illinoisaap.com.
